Wigtown
Scotland's National Book Town is on our doorstep, offering a large variety of bookshops and receives thousands of visitors every year.
Wigtown hosts the National Book Festival 24th September - 3rd October 2010
Wildlife
The area is rich in wildlife and Galloway Forest Park has many rivers and lochs as well as moorland, bog and rough grassland. The habitat supports a wide range of wildlife and black grouse, peregrine falcons, pied flycatchers, otters, squirrels and red deer can be seen by the careful observer. Ospreys can be seen on CCTV in Wigtown County Buildings between April & September, and the nearby Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve is home to many different overwintering birds.
Fordbank is able to offer guided nature walks and badger watching.
Cycling
The Machars Cycle Route is right on your doorstep with three different routes which take in coast, countryside and places of interest.
World class mountain biking at the '7stanes' includes Glentrool in the Galloway Forest Park and Kirroughtree Visitor Centre.
Cyclists are most welcome at Fordbank, we offer packed lunches, cycle storage, clothes drying facilities and early breakfasts.
Golf
With breathtaking views and a wide variety of courses to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice.
Fordbank is adjacent to the Wigtown & Bladnoch Golf Club and we are able to provide lockable storage for your clubs, weather forecasts, course information, clothes drying, early breakfasts and late evening meals to help you make the most of your golfing holiday.
Walking
Whether you want an easy stroll on a beach, or through the forest, or a more strenuous hike, you will be spoilt for choice. There are over 40 summits topping 2000ft in the Galloway Hills with the Merrick at 2766ft being the highest in Southern Scotland. There are countless lochs,
burns and waterfalls waiting to be discovered in this unspoilt area. Packed lunches, early breakfasts, drying facilities are all available to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
